The Journey of Sunfarm Organics
Makhana(foxnuts) is not just a snack—it is a sacred food. Revered for centuries, it holds a special place in Hindu rituals, vrat, and puja, symbolizing purity, nourishment, and tradition. Deeply rooted in Indian mythology and daily life, makhana has always been considered wholesome and divine.
Born and raised in Bihar, the heartland of makhana cultivation, makhana was a part of everyday life for us. It was consumed regularly at home, during festivals, fasts, and religious occasions. Like many, we enjoyed makhana without ever questioning how it was processed or handled before reaching our plates.
That changed during the COVID lockdown.
What began as curiosity turned into a revelation. For the first time, we closely observed how makhana was being processed at the grassroots level. What we witnessed was shocking—unhygienic handling, lack of standard operating procedures, absence of quality controls, and no regulatory oversight. A food considered sacred was being treated without the care, cleanliness, or respect it truly deserves.
This moment became a turning point.
We identified a massive gap between the perceived purity of makhana and the reality of its processing. There was an urgent need for change—a need to process makhana hygienically, responsibly, and scientifically, while preserving its natural goodness and cultural significance.
This realization led to the birth of Sunfarm Organics.
Sunfarm Organics was founded with a clear vision: to treat makhana the way it should be treated. We built a world-class, hygienic manufacturing facility spanning over 8,000 sq. ft., designed to meet the highest food safety and quality standards. Our operations are backed by ISO and ZED certifications, ensuring strict hygiene, defined SOPs, and consistent quality at every stage.
From sourcing to processing, roasting, and packaging, makhana at Sunfarm Organics is handled with precision, care, and respect. We follow a farm-to-fork approach, working closely with local farmers and the Mallah community, while creating a safe, clean, and scalable ecosystem for healthy snack production.
Today, Sunfarm Organics stands for purity, hygiene, and trust—bridging tradition with modern food science. What started as a moment of concern has grown into a mission to redefine makhana for India and the world, ensuring that this sacred food finally receives the standards, dignity, and excellence it deserves.
